Mechanical Engineer
Industry: Energy
Area: Geothermal
The EPA has rated GHP as the most efficient heating and cooling system available today. Different styles of pipes are installed beside a building. A liquid is piped through the pipes to pick up the heat FROM the ground or (in the summer) to bring heat from the building to the ground. Mechanical engineers, geologists, drilling crews, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning contractors are needed to manufacture and install GHPs. Most Mechanical Engineers work in office buildings but spend considerable time at construction sites.

Salary
Experienced Mechanical Engineers can make between $70,000 and $80,000 per year.
