Process/Project Manager

Industry: Energy
Area: Nuclear

Process/Project Managers use operations research, industrial engineering and business management to improve the efficiency of the business and operational functions of the plant. In particular, these engineers devise a schedule for all of the work to be performed in a scheduled refueling/maintenance outage to keep it as short as possible.

Work Settings

A nuclear power plant is not all that different from coal, oil, or gas fired plants. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), part of our government, licenses the use of nuclear material and inspects users to make sure they follow the rules for safety.

The Process Project Manager position requires a minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

Job Outlook

Process Project Managers are expected to have employment growth about as fast as the average for all occupations though 2014.

Annual wages data for Process Project Managers range from $60,000 to $80,000.

Work Schedule

Most Process Project Managers work a standard 40-hour week. At times, deadlines or design standards may bring extra pressure to a job, requiring engineers to work longer hours.
