Clinical Lab Assistants perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. They may work under the supervision of a medical technologist. Tasks include conducting quantitative and qualitative chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid, incubating bacteria for specified period and preparing vaccines and serums by standard laboratory methods and performing blood counts, using a microscope.

Research is conducted in hospitals, universities, pharmaceutical companies and small research laboratories.
