Staff at cultural institutions such as Museum Curators, Heritage Interpreters and Tour Guides plan and oversee the exhibition of historic, artistic and cultural artifacts and facilities. Along with archivists, technicians and conservators they are responsible for preserving and maintaining collections and facilities. They may coordinate educational and public outreach programs, such as tours, workshops, lectures, and classes, and work with the boards of institutions to administer plans and policies.
Education
Cultural institution staff need to have a minimum of an associate's degree and or 3 years experience. Curators and archivists generally have master's or doctoral degrees.
Salary
Most staff at cultural institutions in this region earn between $25,000 and $48,000 per year.
Skill Requirements
A strong interest in the institution/site and the area of interest it represents is essential. This occupation often requires public speaking skills. Cultural institution staff must to be able to work flexible hours.
