Engineering - Electrical/Mechanical Lab Technician

Electrical/Mechanical Technicians perform laboratory testing on experimental models and components to determine acceptable standards of performance reliability for quality control purposes. They mount and secure experimental models on test devices and follows test procedures in prescribed sequence, note and record performance data for evaluation, calling attention to deviations or variations not anticipated or indicated in testing specifications and instructions. Prepare reports of test data for evaluation and makes recommendations as to product performance, malfunctions, failures, or breakdowns.

Work Settings

Lab or shop setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. While many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day, this position usually works during first shift.


Requires some basic technical training or experience equivalent and 2 or more years of on- the-job experience.
