Computer Programmers analyzes business or scientific systems specifications and develops logic flowcharts. They code programs, prepare test data and test and debugs programs. They revise and update programs and documentation as required and provide the necessary documentation for the end user. Programmers develop, test, installs and modify operating systems, compilers, utilities and other systems software. They encode, tests, debug, document and installs programs. Programmers may design and apply new methods and procedures, prepare proposals and cost estimates for future work and evaluate progress and results and recommend major changes in procedures.
Work Settings
Office setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. While many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day, this position usually works during first shift.
Education
Bachelor's degree and specific programming language experience.
