Sets up, monitors and controls electronic computer equipment. Studies program operating instructions to determine equipment set-up and run operation. Manipulates controls in accordance with standard procedures to operate equipment and to rearrange sequence of program steps in order to correct computational errors or to continue operations when individual units of the system malfunction. As required, confers with appropriate personnel in the event errors or equipment failures require a change of instructions or sequence of operation. (This covers the operator who is normally running one program at a time.)
Work Settings
Office setting, computer room. The average workweek is 40 hours. While many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day, this position usually works during first shift but may be on call to support other shifts
Education
Bachelors degree or Associate's degree with job experience
