Construct or install and repair a variety of woodwork requiring accuracy and good appearance, such as doors, stairs, roofs, partitions, hardware, and fixtures. Make repairs to office furniture, cabinets, etc. Operate a variety of power hand tools and woodworking machinery as required. Note: carpenters perform their skill 100% of the time.
Work Settings
Entire facility, including office and manufacturing floor. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
Education
Carpenters usually acquire their skills through a formal apprenticeship program or through on-the-job training supplemented by courses at a trade or technical school.
