Employees in this position make periodic tours around building and grounds or patrol fixed post as assigned. Guard premises against fire, theft, unlawful entry, and sabotage. Check windows, doors, and gates to see that they are properly fastened and watch for any irregularity. Usually armed. May be uniformed and/or deputized.
Work Settings
Entire facility, including office and manufacturing floor. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
