Employees in this position install and move large and/or delicate equipment requiring accuracy and care to align and balance and involving difficult rigging. Dismantle and reassemble units as circumstances indicate. Select or specify hangers, belts, miscellaneous items, etc. Install, repair and maintain power drives.
Work Settings
Manufacturing floor or tool room setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
Education
Millwrights usually acquire their skills through a formal apprenticeship program or through on-the-job training supplemented by courses at a trade or technical school.
