Job Description:
I am accountable for the medical treatment of primary care patients, treatment of work related illness and injury, coordination of the Emergency Medical Squad and Wellness Center and promoting Wellness. I assess and diagnosis the physical and psychosocial health status of patients through history collection, physical examination and diagnostic testing. Included in my role is disability management, ergonomics assessment and providing OSHA mandated training to the appropriate groups.
What I like best about my job:
I enjoy working with people and educating them on being “the best they can be” physically, emotionally and socially.
Advice I would give to someone interested in this job:
This is not a job where a newly graduated nurse can walk into. This job requires clinical experience as a RN. It is important anyone who is interested in a position as an occupational health nurse maintains effective and harmonious working relationship with the customer (employees and patients) to ensure cooperation in achieving assigned activities and objectives. It is also important you develop and maintain relationships with other health care providers to facilitate optimum medical care.

Performs diversified duties as a Registered Nurse in plant hospital or dispensary. Administers first-aid in all cases of injury or illness and determines if treatment is within scope of available facilities or if doctor's services are necessary. Maintains records of all cases treated and prepares necessary reports. Duties may include visiting sick or injured employees at home or in the hospital, handling safety, employee assistance referral and wellness programs.
Work Settings
Manufacturing medical office. The average workweek is 40 hours. While many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day, this position usually works during first shift.
