There are two levels of Bench/Machine assemblers. Level I perform routine bench and/or machine operations on light weight items following standardized procedures. Includes, but not limited to, assembling of parts, soldering, drilling, riveting, cutting, spot welding, simple adjusting, stamping, loading and unloading of conveyors or automatic machines, racking, stringing, checking against packing lists and packing, applying labels or stencils as necessary. Level II Assemblers work with a wide variety of complex and non-standard units, subassemblies and final assemblies having many parts and details, where difficult adjustments may be required to fit, align and ensure free action of movable parts. Works from drawings and verbal instructions to select, set up and use equipment, testing devices, gauges, templates, assembly jigs and fixtures to create desired assembly.
Work Settings
Manufacturing floor setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
Education
High school diploma or GED; plus job related experience

Average hourly earnings in CNY in 2005 ranged from $9.53/hour to $13.63/hour.
