Tool, Die or Gauge Maker

Plan, construct, alter and repair a wide variety of complex tools, and/or dies, jigs, fixtures and gauges to very close tolerances. Includes compound, progressive and deep draw dies. Perform development work, difficult tool room machine operations; do skilled fitting, timing, and adjusting. Determine metal flow in dies, make tool try- outs, diagnose and correct trouble.
Work Settings
Manufacturing floor or tool room setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
Education
High school diploma or GED; technical education and 4 years job related experience
