Set up and operate several different types of machine tools, such as engine lathe, grinders, jib borer, milling machine, shaper, etc., on complicated parts for tools, dies, jibs, fixtures, and gauges, following standard methods or general instructions. Critical tolerances. Set-ups exacting and complicated. Select speeds, feeds, and tooling for varying materials and conditions.
Work Settings
Manufacturing floor or tool room setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
Education
High school diploma or GED; technical education and 4 years job related experience
