Shipping and/or Receiving Clerk

Performs tasks necessary for the shipping and/or receiving of supplies and finished products. Receiving functions includes counting and examining of raw materials, supplies, stock and purchased parts to verify completeness against shipping documents, checking for damaged goods, and keeping records of shortages, exceptions and damage. Shipping function includes weighing and addressing of parcels or crates of merchandise or materials, attaching postage or making up and attaching bill of lading, and keeping record of goods shipped. Selection, packing and wrapping or crating of goods to be shipped may also be included.
Work Settings
Office in warehouse, distribution center and/or manufacturing shop floor setting. The average workweek is 40 hours. Shift work and overtime is common. Many manufacturers operate 24 hours/day.
